A challenge from the cities: common goods, social rights, dignity!
Evey day the crisis of capitalism shows its brutality: war, xenophobia, fascism, fear death, social and environmental devastation, selfish individualism and poverty. Despite that, at different latitudes of the planet resistant communities, singular experiences of fights, autonomous and mutualism arise.
From the southeast mountains of Mexico to European cities, each with its own practices to contrast social barbarity, each assembling its own small piece in a global clash, articulated on different grounds: earth and its products, knowledge and wealth's distribution. These fragmented struggles need to build mutual knowledge, common strategies and connect their experiences in order to put together all these small pieces towards a different society.
During the last years in the city on Naples the connection between the experiences of reclaiming public space and the production of juridical and political tools concerning commons gave birth to an open space for experimentation, self-organization, association, mutualism and culture. Together they helped to protect the public heritage from private speculation and showed an alternative model of elaboration of civic and collective use statutes switching the right to the city from a merely defensive to an offensive stance. In recent years we’ve been in contact with many different cities and groups experimenting radical democracy through progressive political program around the concept of commons and courageous and innovative practices. We call on all of them to participate and facilitate a three day meeting of debates, workshops and assemblies that, organized in collaboration with the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung Brussels, we will host in Naples's liberated spaces from the 17th to the 19th of November 2017.
Through sharing experiences and experimentation concerning urban commons in our city, we want to build a space of discussion, exchange and development of common practices concerning some crucial topics surrounding the ongoing challenge against international and European neo-liberalism: education, jobs and social rights, war and immigration, austerity, debt and privatization of the public space.
